Why You Should Go Gold Panning

December 19, 2016

Have you become tired of doing the same old activity time and time again? Sure, you might enjoy what you’re doing, but it probably doesn’t have the same exciting feel as when you first got started. Or, if you tend to like to seek out new adventures, perhaps you’re just at a loss for ideas. If you’re looking for something new and fun to try, why not go panning for gold? Here are a few reasons why.

While gold panning often looks like you’re just going to be hunched over a stream with a pan in your hands, there’s a lot more activity involved than that. Panning can actually help you get some great exercise. You will more than likely have to hike to your panning location and you’re going to be doing a fair amount of digging, giving you a full body workout.

If you’re the type who loves to go on new adventures, gold panning is the perfect activity for that. You’re not going to find gold on your normal walking path. Instead, you’re going to have to do a bit of off-roading (on foot) to get to your river or streamside destination. Along the way, you might even get to see things you’ve never seen before!

Spend Time with Others

Beyond safety measures (you should never go off to an unknown location by yourself), there are plenty of reasons to bring along a friend or family member. Spending time outside with those you love is a great way to connect, especially with our dependency upon electronics these days keeping us distanced from one another. Plus, if you do strike it big, you’re going to want someone you care about there to share it with you. Better yet, make it a family activity; young kids will love finding gold of their own.

Of course, the best reason to go panning for gold is the reward: gold! Even if you don’t find giant, life changing nuggets, you’ll still have the enjoyment of bringing home a vial of small gold concentrates. Put some of your haul on display, and you’ll have an interesting and unique conversation piece when guests come over to visit.

Best Places to Go

If you’re really looking for a new adventure, there are plenty of places to go on a grand adventure. For a traditional gold miner experience, head to California, or go in search of Alaskan gold at Crow Creek Gold Mine, where one of the largest producing hydraulic placer mines in Alaska. Or, if you’re looking for something a little less traditional, head to Montana, which is ranked 7th in the US for gold production.

Going out in search of gold can be an exciting adventure. If you’d prefer to keep the adventure a little closer to home, why not set up your own gold hunt in your own backyard? Eureka Joe’s can supply you with bags of Alaskan pay dirt, all guaranteed to have gold inside. You can still enjoy panning for gold, without needing to leave your own home, at least until you’re ready to start your own gold adventure.
